A British expat's South African return may need more than local salary information. Confirm residence for the tax year, then list every source of income and gain, including UK pensions, rent, dividends, interest, employment, business income and disposals.

Gather gross amounts, dates, statements, currency conversions and tax withheld. UK tax paid does not automatically remove South African reporting. Treaty allocation and foreign-tax-credit rules determine relief.

Keep acquisition costs and transaction evidence for investments and property. If provisional-tax obligations or overseas structures may apply, seek advice early enough to meet payment as well as filing deadlines.

Where UK and South African returns cover the same item, ensure advisers use consistent facts. Keep calculations, returns, assessments and payment evidence.
